A LATE VICTORIAN MARQUETRY INLAID OAK AND BURL WALNUT COW HIDE COVERED BARBER'S CHAIR, ATTRIBUTED TO KOKEN, the telescoping head rest, over a square back, above a trapezoidal seat, within rectangular, upholstered arms, above a skirt with inlaid burl plaques, flanked by two circular inlaid medallions with scenes of a sparrow in flight over an infant, possibly a fairy child that is cradled in a blooming flower, surrounded by scrolling tendrils, raised on a splayed foot, quadruped base with brass up feet, mounted with a foot pump mechanism, fronted by a fold out, upholstered leg and boot rest. Height: 47" Width: 25 3/4" Depth: 41" NOTE: The marquetry inlay theme is likely after some of Eleanor Vere Boyle's (English 1825-1916) illustrations of childhood fairy tales. Fairies were a popular theme throughout the 19th century.

There are some cracks, apparent repairs, some glue residue, surface scratches and wear throughout, dust debris, later upholstery, some pieces possibly now lacking, mechanisms no longer working, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
