Description
Julian Stanczak (American, Cleveland School, 1928-2017) Metallic litograph, signed lower right in pencil, numbered lower left 9/20. Matted and framed under glass in a gilt wood frame, 31" x 31", overall 38-3/4" x 38-1/4". The Op Art movement was named after his first exhibition in 1964 “Julian Stanczak: Optical Paintings" at the Martha Jackson Gallery, New York. A renewed interest in Op Art can be attributed to D. Wigmore Fine Art, New York. From 2010 to 2016, D. Wigmore Fine Art mounted six group shows examining different aspects of Op Art, including it's manifestations in Ohio; the shows featured Mr. Stanczak’s work prominently. Articles on his work appeared in Artforum and Art in America. In 2012, Mr. Stanczak’s paintings were included in “Ghosts in the Machine,” a thematic exhibition at the New Museum in Manhattan. In 2014, he had his first show with Mitchell-Innes & Nash.
