Handwritten Poetry Manuscripts, Poetry Books. 1) Ode From Italy in Time of War: Night on Mattarone by Herbert Trench, rare edition, 1915, copyrighted by author, soft cover, all pages present, very good condition, 7-1/2" x 10"; 2) Handwritten poem "What I Hate" signed by "An Illegitimate Son of Genr'l Putnam - many lines the same as poem "Things Hateful!" By Dr. J. C. Batson - unknown which came first - no date. 3) Handwritten poem "Whulge" by Edmond S. Meany, Whulge is an alternative term for Puget Sound, used by some Native Americans and environmentalists, Whulge (or Whulj), an anglicization of the Lushootseed name for "sea, salt water, ocean, or sound. This poem is an original written for his friend by renowned professor of botany and history at the University of Washington, signed 17 August, 1911, 8-1/2" x 11"; 4) Handwritten poem, "Lord Roberts" by Rudyard Kipling, but not written by Kipling. Identity of writer unknown; 4-1/2" x 7". Provenance: Estate of Russell Johanson, Ravenna Rare Books, Seattle, WA.
