Description
From the estate collection of Herve George Guimond (1924-2015), founder and first President of the New Bedford (Massachusetts) Glass Society and Glass Museum. Ca late 19thcentury. Seven pieces comprising a tankard-form water pitcher and six tumblers, each with a polished pontil mark. Pitcher measures 9 inches tall, tumblers 3 ¾ inches tall. The Mount Washington Glass Works began operating in 1837 in the Mount Washington area of South Boston, Massachusetts and continued operating there until the factory was closed in 1870. Shortly after the closure, the factory owner, William Libbey, moved the operation to New Bedford, Massachusetts where the Mount Washington Glass Works operated from 1870 until 1894.
