Description
English Revolutionary War-era "Brown Bess" musket, circa 1779, the lock stamped with "GR" crowned and "Tower," proof marks and unknown barrelsmith initials "HB" on the top left side of the breech, the walnut full stock with sharp contours and brass butt end, retains iron ramrod; pictured in G. C. Neumann's 2011 book, "Battle Weapons of the American Revolution. Barrel: 40.5" L; overall: 56" L. Use-related wear consisting of loss and cracks to stock at the tail of the ramrod entry pipe, very minor pitting and corrosion, some nicks and nail losses in stock, nicks to brass elements, missing sling swivels.
