Description
Central/Northern Europe, Celtic Iron Age, ca. 2nd century BCE to 1st century CE. A large iron spear head with a narrow, conical socket. A broad, flat midrib rises from the socket to the tip of the blade. Iron blades were hammered into shape. In Celtic, the words "gae, ga, gai, faga, foga, and sleg" were all used for spears, which appear in Celtic sagas like the Ulster Cycle, which focuses on events that supposedly took place around the 1st century CE. Size: 2.1" W x 20.25" H (5.3 cm x 51.4 cm); 21.35" H (54.2 cm) on included custom stand.
