Description
A matched pair of Cary's twelve-inch table globes By J&W Cary and G&J Cary London, the celestial dated 1800; the terrestrial dated Jan, 4 1827, 19th century and laterEach with a brass meridian ring and printed calendar ring. height 19in (48.25cm); diameter 17in (43cm)
Condition
A matched pair as stated. In overall restored condition. Each globe with areas of repaired cracks, patched repair and overpainted restoration - some areas better matched than others. Terrestrial globe with a few formerly compressed areas evdient. Each with a series of bronw concentric marks to southern hemisphere. Each with abrasions around North Pole rings. Nort pole rings replaced. Cleaned/restored or posibly replaced. Central rings re-notched to fit new meridian rings. Original notches extant. Calendar rings later. Some areas of scrapes and loss of pigment to calendar rings. A few losses to edges of paper in areas. With a red stain around edge.
