Approx. 179 unnumbered leaves. Numerous woodcut initials. Wide margins with printed marginal notes. Typography more resembling the incunable period. (32mo)14x9 cm (5½x4") bound in modern red morocco, spine lettered in gold; modern marbled endpapers, modern flyleafs. Early printing.
John Cassian (c. AD 360 - c.435) was a Christian monk and thelogian celebrated in both the Western and Eastern Churches for his mystical writings. Cassian is noted for his role in bringing the ideas and practices of Christian monasticism to the early medieval West. No copies of this printing from 1525 could be located at OCLC.
Condition
Bottom 1½" of title leaf repaired on recto with old paper covering the lowest part of the asterisk type woodcut decoration and an early inscription - with loss of only a couple of letters on printed verso of title; a few minuscule wormholes near gutter of title leaf; interior sound; very good.
