"These tintypes, ambrotypes and stereo cards were gathered to use in my study and lectures about antique quilts over the years. The many dated photos show the dress styles including the detail of the printed fabric useful for me in dating antique fabric.
I learned to quilt, not from family members as is the usual case, but in an Adult Education class in Columbia, MO in 1977. I loved all of the piecing and applique and especially the quilting. We moved to California in 1978, eager to share my quilting knowledge, a year later I was teaching classes. My classes filled and I out-grew the fabric shop, moved to one a little larger and finally moved to Tustin for larger class space. We moved to Rancho Santa Fe eight years later and I stopped teaching to have time for lectures and my writing. I have been published on various subjects, including Feed Sacks in Quilt-making, Mary A McElwain — Quilt Businesswoman and Charm Quilts in The American Quilt Study Group annual book, Uncoverings, as well as numerous Quilt magazines. As a Fabric Designer from 1989 to 2011 I was with P & B Textiles in San Francisco and then RJR Fabrics in Torrence, CA."
