Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A wonderful redware vessel with a ribbed, round body perhaps representing a gourd or other phytomorphic form, from which a figure - highly decorated with multiple ear ornaments, bracelets, and shoulder pellets - arises with an expressive visage comprised of almost closed coffee bean shaped eyes, a prominent nose, and parted lips - as if chanting or singing. The body is further delineated with nubbin breasts and a protruding buttocks. Size: 6.875" in diameter x 8.25" H (17.5 cm x 21 cm)
