marked to domed base, open stem with four bezel set mottled green hardstone supports, the conical silver gilt bowl detaches from the base, hand-hammered surface.

Philip Paval was born in Denmark in 1899. After studying art and serving an apprenticeship with a silversmith, he immigrated to the United States in 1919. He opened his own silversmith shop in Los Angeles in the 1920s. A highly regarded sculptor and silversmith, Paval was a favorite of the Hollywood set. In 1950, he was commissioned by Elizabeth Taylor to make her bridesmaids' gifts for her May 6th wedding to Conrad Hilton.
