Description
JAPAN AIR LINES - MASK
In the post-World War II era of the 1950's , the economies of the world were growing rapidly along with the growth of technology in the commercial aviation world. That led to many new routes globally for the airlines as well as tourists looking for new destinations. This poster is one of many created for Japan Air Lines to promote the idea of air travel to Japan. We see the traditional kabuki mask used as the central focus of the poster. Additionally, the top text lists San Francisco, Honolulu, Tokyo, Okinawa, and Hong Kong as cities serviced by Japan Air Lines. The graphic itself is very stylized with a hint of East meets West. JAL was established in 1951 and became the national airline of Japan in 1953. After over three decades of service and expansion, the airline was fully privatized in 1987. In 2002, the airline merged with Japan Air System, Japan's third-largest airline and became the sixth largest airline in the world by passengers carried. Japan Airlines is currently an official sponsor of Japan Football Association, Japan national football team, Shimizu S-Pulse and Consadole Sapporo. All Nippon Airways, the largest airline in Japan, is JAL's main competitor. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is printed on heavy weight paper and uses metallic inks in parts. It is in excellent condition with minor handling at the edges. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
