5th Dragoon Guards helmet with case and named to Lt. Russell Carr. Russell Carr served in the Boer War 1899 to 1902 firstly with Thorneycrofts Mounted Infantry North of the Orange River 1899-1900. Took part in the operations in Natal 1900, Helpnakaal and Armands Nek, actions at Laings Nek. Operations in the Transvaal East of Pretoria 1900 and Cape Colony, South of the Orange River September to October 1901. Served 5th Dragoon Guards operations Zululand Frontier. Awarded Queen's South Africa Medal with 4 clasps and King's South Africa Medal with 2 clasps. Commissioned 2nd Lt 5th January 1901, Lt 28th August 1901.
