The Steiff Company of Germany is legendary. Since the late 19th Century, Steiff has produced millions of treasured toys. The famous "rod bear" made its appearance in 1904 and by 1905-07, the classic early teddy took the world by storm. In the year 1907 over 900,000 teddy bears were manufactured by Steiff. This mohair bear captures the first decade of Steiff magic. The bear represents the continuing appeal of Steiff craftsmanship with an underscored Steiff button, shoe button eyes, a horizontal nose that has faded to brown, excelsior and kapok stuffing and elongated curved arms, Very minor fur loss to snout.
