The larger doll, 15" tall, is a typical doll designed to portray a white child with carved and painted black hair, carved facial features with paint similar to the upper shoulder. The body is fully articulated with mortise and tenon joints with metal lower arms and legs with molded boots appropriately painted. There is significant wear, especially to the head, which is common of this type of doll. The smaller doll is 12-1/2" tall and exceptionally rare. She is meant to portray a black child of the time and has a painted and decorated head, upper shoulder and arms. She has a similar body construction to the other doll, and wears a red and white plaid dress with red shoulder cape and red apron. She has some typical paint wear but is in good condition.
