Item Details
Description
Classical World, Phoenicia and Greece, ca. 6th to 4th century BCE. A gorgeous collection of 56 blue and white glass "eye beads", 50 small 22 karat gold beads, and 6 larger, granulated cylinder 22 karat gold beads, all strung on a modern string with an ancient 24 karat S-curve gold clasp. Spherical eye beads were probably the most popular type of decorated glass bead in most of the ancient world, and are frequently found in Phoenician contexts. The ancient gold beads, meanwhile, would have belonged to an elite member of classical Greek society. Here the two styles are combined to create a beautifully wearable necklace. Length of strand: 17" L (43.2 cm)
