Europe, France, Jacques Callot (French, 1592-1635), "Cap. Mala Gamba and Cap. Bellavita - 15" etching, ca. 1621 to 1622 CE. An etching on paper entitled "Capitano Mala Gamba and Capitano Bellavita di Sfessania (Dance of Sfessania)," plate 15 from a series of 24 plates designed in Florence and published in Nancy. The figures depicted in the composition are Italian performers dancing the Sfessania. Custom grey double mats and gilded frame. Size: 3.25" L x 4.25" W (8.3 cm x 10.8 cm); 11.125" L x 11.75" W (28.3 cm x 29.8 cm) including mat and frame
Jacques Callot was an important artist who contributed significantly to the development of the old master print. He created more than 1400 etchings that chronicle various aspects of early 17th century life and culture - depictions of clowns, soldiers, gypsies, drunkards, beggars, dancers, as well as figures instrumental to court life.
This etching also appears in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art [accession number 57.650.305 (15)] and the National
Gallery of Art (Rosenwald Collection 1943.3.2188)

Condition
Paper shows normal discoloration commensurate with age. Plate mark is nice and visible. Mat, frame, and glass are in very good condition.
