Description
A Cypriot base ring juglet or 'bilbil' (poppy flask), c. 1550 - 1200 BC, with handle, piriform body, and ring foot, the orange slip now blackened. 5 in (12.6cm). Ex collection of Lawrence Buchanan and Dr. Enrique von Kiguel formed throughout the 1970's-80's. These vessels are often referred to as 'Poppy Flask' because it is thought these vessel may have been used to export opium, the shape of the vessel resembling the head of a poppy.
