Description
A pair of early Japanese Meiji cloisonne vases with birds and flowers on rich turquoise background and geometric borders on brass. The pair of birds on each vase seem to be connected to each other. Amongst white, pink and red flowers and leaves, sparrows are flying towards each other on one side of each vase. On the other side of each vase, a more unusual tropical bird, perhaps an Asian sparrow, is turning her/his head towards the same bird on the other vase flying towards her/him. Dating to 1880. 7 1/16" tall x 4 1/4" wide at widest point. Excellent condition. No damages or restorations on exterior. There is a small area on the interior of the lip of each vase with a minor crack(see photo). It does not go through to the outside. Good weight.
