Description
'Flying Hermes' after the16th century original by Giovanni da Bologna, of patinated bronze, depicting Hermes, the messenger of the gods, floating on a column of air blown from the mouth of Zephyr, whilst holding a caduceus, or Greek herald’s staff, in one hand and a vessel in the other, he wears a petasus (round winged helmet), and has wings at his ankles, the whole rising on an integral bronze socle base resting on a marble plinth, 23"h x 6"w x 6.5"d; overall with plinth 28"h.
