Description
A Chinese scholar's box made from huanghuali wood and made during the 17th to 18th centuries. The box has brass fixtures consisting of 4 ruyi-shaped elements on the top 4 corners and handles on each side, along with a latch and pull on the front. The interior has a top tray and 4 drawers behind the front panel. The latching mechanism is included.
Dimensions are: 11 inches tall X 10 3/4 inches wide. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: A few minor dents and dings to the exterior, the interior shows age wear. Overall good condition.
Provenance: From a Seattle collector, who was a General Manager for United Technology company in China. He purchased the box from an antique shop in Tianjin in the 1980s.
