22 volumes of the extensive Italian history began by Graevii and continued by Pieter Burman. With hundreds of engraved portraits of historical figures, detailed maps and scenes. Pieter Burman was appointed professor of history for the United Provinces and in 1724 he became the 9th Librarian of Leiden University. His numerous editorial and critical works spread his fame as a scholar throughout Europe. The 1725 tome has no volume number assigned, and is perhaps a later addition to the work.
