Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. A beautiful fragment of a ceremonial dish, its surface incised and drilled with a highly abstract motif of anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures - what looks like a bird with its wings spread is on one side. The stone is a gorgeous deep green/black color, with brilliant red cinnabar coloring one side of it. Size: 7.25" W x 3.9" H (18.4 cm x 9.9 cm)
