Description
**Originally Listed At $2000**
Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st century CE. An incredible and rare glass millefiori bracelet, mainly cerulean blue, with red, navy blue, and yellow inclusions. To make millefiori beads, artisans produce glass canes or rods, called murrine, by layering different-colored glass around a core. At this stage, their multicolored patterns are only visible from the cut ends of the cane. The rods are heated in a furnace and stretched until thin, then cut into shape. The technique is ancient, and seems to have been invented in Mesopotamia in the 2nd century BCE; however, the Romans perfected it. This example is very rare given how broad its band is. Size: 3" W x 0.75" H (7.6 cm x 1.9 cm)
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
