Description

A beautiful ruddy bergundy colour highlights this beautiful handmade glass cane which features a perfectly symetrical twisted shepard style handle and finishes in an elegantly twisted point. In North America, glass canes are described as ‘whim- sies’ and in the UK they’re often referred to as ‘friggers’, a toungue-in-cheek de- scription describing these creations as the glassblower was just ‘frigging around’ at the end of the shift. Wether you see it as a whimsey or simply frigging around, the true explanation is the same, they are examples of the glassblowers skill, and bragging rights as an artist. At the end of an order the glassblower’s furnace would often have extra molten glass leftover, rather than waste it, it was an opportunity to sculpt with glass. Often it was in form alone but many exquisite examples reveal the precision and skill of a true artist in the mixing of a myriad of different colours. 28.25 in. long Weight: 1 kilogram
