Description
**Originally Listed At $700**
Persia, Iran, 18th century CE. A beautiful small piece made of steel with a copper top, inlaid with silver, with sparing golden details, done in a technique known as khoftgari. Khoftgari (also koftgari) is done by scoring lines into the surface of metal, then laying a flat wire made of metal over the incisions and hammering it into the cut area. The method is not as permanent as inlay, but allows the artisan to produce more ornate designs. Incised details within the steel (without khoftgari) also present endless delights to notice: floral designs, busts of various humans, and many different kinds of animals in dynamic poses. A beautiful and rare find with excellent craftsmanship! Size: 3.3" W x 3.55" H (8.4 cm x 9 cm)
Provenance: private Millburn, New Jersey, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
