South America, Bolivia, ca. 19th century CE. A petite sterling silver bell with a conical body, a thin rim with repeating incised linear motifs, and a domed top section. The "handle" on this example is shaped to resemble a standing man, wearing a hat and holding a bottle, with outstretched arms and a satchel hanging around one shoulder. A spherical striking ball hangs from the top of the interior by a needle-thin bar and, when rung, emits a bright and lively sound. Simply gorgeous! Size: 2.75" H (7 cm); grade of silver: 92.5% or higher.
