Doulton Lambeth Draft Horse Vase, glazed ceramic with Barlow's signature incised blue line decoration, 11 inches tall, Hannah B. Barlow (1851-1916), was the first woman artist to be employed by Henry Doulton. She entered the Lambeth School of Art as a student in 1868, and the following year Arthur joined her. . There she practiced painting modeling and general design, including the beginnings of the incised or sgraffito method of decorating pots which was to become her forte.
