Description
Large Herend Rothschild Bird Shell Dish / Bowl. In excellent condition. Measures 12"x10"x3 1/2". Herend Rothschild Bird china features beautifully rendered birds and vibrantly colored insects, but perhaps the most interesting element of the Rothschild Bird tableware design is the tree containing a gracefully draped pearl necklace - an element included specifically for the famous Rothschild family. Many connoisseurs consider this pattern, first created in 1860 for the Rothschild family of Europe, to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. Twelve different motifs portray a 19th century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree. In Excellent condition. Weight to ship 2 pds 9 oz. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate
