Description
A carved wooden mask with kaolin clay pigment accenting patterns on the face. Such masks were connected with the judicial Okukwe society and was primarily worn by the men. At the center of village life, the masks sanction such events as mourning important people, birth of twins, and initiation ceremonies. Galoa peoples, Gabon, Africa.
