Description
NEWBORN / INFANT GOWNS / DRESSES, LOT OF THREE, fine cotton batiste, hand-sewn, comprising a newborn christening gown, and two infant Layette or day dresses; christening gown measures approximately 41" L from shoulder to skirt hem, two tie backs approximately 36" in length, fine silk bobbin lace edging around ruffles cascading down front, intricate pintucks and silk white-work detailing, with double-flounce and ruffled lower hem, puffed sleeves lined with batiste, three smocked drawstrings closures on the back with two tiny, original mother-of-pearl buttons; infant dresses measure approximately 43" L from shoulder to skirt hem, matching smocked waistbands with drawstring closures, three tiny matching pearl buttons covered with needle lace, one dress shirred down the front and trimmed with slim silk bobbin lace, the other with pintucked bodice. Circa 1872. Sizes as described.
All gowns in excellent condition, very white, clean, slight if any offensive odors. Christening gown has a few small breaks to the bridges in white-work down the front. One day dress with pinhead-sized brown stain to front; other day dress with minor damage to lace and torn seams at cuffs.
