Description
ASSORTED ANTIQUE MEN'S AND LADY'S ACCESSORIES, LOT OF TEN, comprising an olive green silk quilted hood with large forest green bow trim; a cotton ruffled day bonnet trimmed in bobbin lace; pair of brown kid leather opera gloves with ivory colored piping, brown mother-of-pearl buttons, Paris label; pair of bracelet-length ivory-colored kid leather gloves, mother-of-pearl buttons, Paris label; an Edwardian wide-brimmed hat, natural woven horsehair with black velvet band beneath brim, silk tulle trim with large ostrich plumes; a man’s black silk collapsible top hat with French label, interior stamped in gold ink, with original shallow black hatbox; and a hand-painted handkerchief. Circa 1820, 1830, 1870, and 1900. Approximate 5 and 6 glove sizes, approximately 21" hat sizes.
Hood in good condition with substantial shattering; bonnet in excellent condition, clean, bright, without damage; gloves in excellent condition; hat in fair condition with crushed crown and loose stitching, substantial shattering to tulle, ostrich plume with substantial shedding; top hat and box in good condition, hat supple and easily opened and shut, soiled, small stains and mildew on both hat and hatbox, seams loose on hatbox and stabilized with 20th century tape.
Provenance: Property deaccessioned by The Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), to benefit the collections and acquisitions funds.
