Description
A pair of nice Romano-Egyptian 'frog' lamps, c. 3rd - 4th Century AD, both of traditional lentoid shape, the larger with three large pellets divided by vertical lines containing hatching, star on the nozzle behind two crescents, incised circle with five dashes on base. 4 3/8 x 4 in (11.2 x 10.2 cm). The second with two crouching figures on either side of the collared fill-hole, raised circle between them, stylized letter impressed on base. 3 1/4 x 3 in (8.3 x 7.6 cm). Both in nice condition with light deposits. Great examples of an interesting lamp form characteristic of the Roman period of Egypt. Ex Orange County private collection.
