"Kanji" Cards: A Set of the Most Common Chinese-Japanese Characters in handwriting and printed styles, with 7000 compound words used in daily conversation. Tuttle, Tokyo/Vermont. c. 1900. Printed carboard box houses paper cards printed in black both sides, with thick cardboard dividers marked with the number of strokes necessary for the characters. Some groups of cards still wrapped in original tissue bands. Instruction booklet included, 72 pages plus ads for other educational material. Cards measure 2.75"w x 3.75"h. Box is 6.5" x 8.5" x 4". Notes/Literature: Huguette Marcelle Clark (1906-2011) was an heiress and philanthropist, who became well known again late in life as a recluse, living in a hospital for more than 20 years while her mansions remained empty. She was an accomplished artist and musician, having studied under famous portrait painter Tadeusz Styka, and her paintings were exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington in 1925
