JOSE MENDOZA (Mexican 20th Century) A TURQUOISE INLAID SAND CAST POLISHED BRASS AND WROUGHT IRON FIRE POKER, FOR PEPE MENDOZA, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO, CIRCA 1965, the Surrealist fire poker with a sand cast Aztec style female figure with upraised left hand, a roosting chicken atop her right hand, with wings on her hips, standing atop a turquoise inlayed circular band with a pair of brass wings at each side, with Aztec style astrological dial, over a pair of addorsed scroll brackets, joining tapering stacked disks, with square section wrought iron poker end. Height: 39 3/4" Width: 5 1/4" Depth: 2"
Condition
In overall fair to good condition with small area of loss of turquoise inlay, minor surface scratching and rubbing commensurate with age and use.
