The Howe family escaped the snow-clad hills of New York State for the warmer climes of the Southwest and Southern California, with Irving Howe's impressions reported back to his home-town newspaper. Besides the articles, the travelogue is noteworthy for the many illustrations with color and real-photo postcards in addition to snapshots of New Mexico and Arizona (with many of Native American interest), the sights and scenes of the California Southland, and more.
