Description
British or possibly colonial, 18th century, composed almost entirely of a tropical exotic wood, probably Lignum Vitae, upper case with arched glazed doors opening to a fitted interior with two interior drawers above a candle slide, lower case with a fall front opening to a fitted interior with seven drawers and till, 76 x 33 x 21 in.
Condition
appears to be in excellent condition, some early repairs to one door frame at hinges, restorations at feet (possibly original foot facings with later blocking and framework, see detailed photos), minor warping to till slide with some later bracing at undersides of writing surface (some associated cracks and separations), probably original mirror plates, wrought nails, and door catches, sliding shelves in upper case with oak secondary and possibly older replacements, other warping and shrinkage cracks, minor veneer repairs and distress, some finish losses and distress at fall board with some scattered crack and infill
