Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Manabi culture, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A lovely set of two globular pottery spindle whorls, incised by hand with abstract avian and geometric motifs, each suspended from a slender chain inside an oxidized sterling silver hoop. The surrounding hoop is meant to highlight the ancient spindle whorl within, accentuating its petite yet complex appearance, and French hooks add an element of sophistication to the overall ensemble. Fashioned in modern times, this is a wonderful and wearable ensemble! Size (earring): 2.125" H (5.4 cm); size (spindle whorl): 0.3" H (0.8 cm); total weight: 5.7 grams; quality of sterling silver: 92.5% or higher.
