PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE TIGER MAPLE SLANT-FRONT DESK, dovetailed case featuring lip-molded hinged lid above four graduated lip-molded drawers, fluted quarter columns, and an applied base molding with ogee-molded bracket feet which are old replacements. Fitted interior featuring a central reeded-panel prospect door, heavy reeded-front document drawers, a secret drawer, plus additional drawers and cubby holes. Poplar secondary wood, period, but not original brasses. Retaining an old refinished surface with warm color and outstanding figuring to the wood. Fourth quarter 18th century. 42 3/4" H, 30" H writing surface, 40 1/4" W, 23" D.
Excellent overall condition, minor repairs to drawer lips, small separation of boards on one end. Minor areas of restoration.
