Description
CHIPPENDALE WALNUT FOOTSTOOL, upholstered and padded top, in Scalamandre silk, over scroll cut-out skirt, raised on four square legs. Retains old refinished surface with warm color. Fourth quarter 19th century. 15 1/4" H, 16" x 19 1/2".

Provenance: From the DeSapri Collection, Granville, OH.
Purchased at the Galt Family / Nelson-Galt House auction, Williamsburg, VA., September 30, 1978, lot 148.
Estate of Mary Ware Galt Kirby, Williamsburg, VA.
Said to have been originally used in the Galt Tavern, Richmond, VA.
Catalogue Note: Was exhibited at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Retains the exhibition number on the back of the skirt and the name "KIRB4" for Mar4 Ware Galt Kirby, who loaned the stool to the Museum. She was the last resident of the Nelson-Galt House on Francis St. in Williamsburg and sold the house to Colonial Williamsburg in 1951-52.
