HAND-SEWN 17-STAR AMERICAN NATIONAL FLAG, linen, light blue canton exhibiting unique double-appliqued medallion pattern with large central star within wreath and corner stars, one star possibly added shortly after creation, unusual eight-stripe fly configuration. Archivally mounted in a custom frame. Reserve. Probably early 19th century. 32 1/4" x 67" object, 40 1/4" x 74 1/4" OA.
Considerable wear, losses, and old repairs. Lacking hoist. Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: From an important Virginia private collection.
