Description
A 36-inch Partial Palm Fossil from Southwest Wyoming's Green River Formation. Palms are among the most unusual and rare fossils to emerge from the Green River Formation. The vast majority of organic material disappears and decays before it has a chance to be fossilized. Since palms shed their fronds as they grow, or have them ripped loose by wind storms, very few survive a single generation, much less tens of millions of years. The great depth of the region's lakes, and the total depletion oxygen in the depths enabled these amazing fossilized plant preservations. These fossilized palms provide evidence that Eocene Epoch Wyoming resembled the subtropical climate of present-day Florida. Total Size: 39.5"H x 28"W x 1.25"D Weight: 52 lbs. Stone: Mosaic Lake II ; Country of Origin: United States; Issued: Eocene Geologic Period;
