Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Asia, Korea, Joseon (Choson) Dynasty, ca. 18th century to 19th century CE. A porcelain jar with an underglaze of cobalt blue. The jar is shaped like a plump apple, wide at the shoulder and slowly tapering to a pronounced, round foot. The mouth of the vessel is slightly wider than the foot, with a short neck and slightly flared rim. A motif of the same character in a double ringed blue circle is repeated three times around the body. Much like in China, the Korean dynasty had groups of state-run kilns, known as the Bunwon (located in Gwangju, near Seoul), which produced white-ware for use by the court, for different government bureaus, and for elite families. Korean porcelain is often distinguished from Chinese by its sparing use of blue. Size: 5.15" W x 4.3" H (13.1 cm x 10.9 cm)
Provenance: private S.S. collection, Los Angeles, California, USA
