Description
**Originally Listed At $125**
Central Asia, Tibet, ca. early 20th century CE. A large and impressively carved wooden ritual container, its walls intricately incised with horizontal registers of twisted rope-like motifs alternating with recessed bands. The handle is also meticulously adorned with a vertical band of incised geometric motifs (mirrored on the opposite side of the vessel) flanked by twin diagonally fretted bands that curve at their upper and lower ends and run to either side of the cup's surface - the resulting upper ribbon-like bands with circular terminals presenting flower petal patterns surrounded by borders with a rope-like pattern. Metal loops attach at the center of these 'flowers' for threading a cord handle. Impressive for its size as well as skillfully executed carving. Size: 7.625" W at widest x 9.75" H (19.4 cm x 24.8 cm)
Provenance: private Pearson Collection, Denver, Colorado, USA
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
