Description
Late 19th century. A very fine Louis XV style ormolu-mounted tulipwood and amaranth marquetry commode with serpentine molded mottled beige and salmon marble top above two long bombe drawers inlaid sans traverse with a central floral bouquet and mounted with pierced rocaille, C-scrolls and scrolling handles, the scalloped apron mounted with pierced foliage, the sides similarly mounted and inlaid with a sunburst panel, the chutes cast as pierced rocaille continuing to cabriole legs ending in foliate cloven animal hooves. Chest stamped "B" and "Made in France" along the top, underneath the marble top along the four corners. Christie's New York label attached to the back boards.
