A Chinese Han-Style Inlaid Bronze Beast
Late Ming / Early Qing Dynasty
2-1/8 h x 4-5/8 w x 2-3/8 d inches (5.4 x 11.7 x 6.0 cm)
In ancient Chinese history, it was customary for gentleman to sit on mats of woven bamboo when reading or conversing outdoors with acquaintances and colleagues. Each of the corners of the mats were anchored with animal-shaped weights to prevent furling.
