Ask any Rolex collector in-the-know which watch is most closely associated with the world of motorsport, and chances are they will tell you the Cosmograph Daytona. Originally developed by Rolex in a bid to become the official watch of NASA, the Cosmograph Daytona was developed to measure incredible speeds. The Cosmograph quickly found its place among the tracks at the Daytona Speedway, and the Rolex Daytona s we know it was born. With a robust movement equipped with a highly useful chronograph complication, it’s made to be worn daily. Housed in a nearly bulletproof “Oyster” case, it’s tough-as-nails, built to last several generations. Versatile styling makes it suitable for nearly all dress occasions – looking great with jeans or a suit. The Daytona is a compelling watch if one must boil their collection down to one. Problem is, they’re not easily obtained.The Mark IV white dial of this Daytona with contrasting black sub-dials is Iconic, to say the least. The surfaces of the dial has a beautiful lacquered glossy black finish adorned with applied metal hour markers inlaid with luminous material. The white sub-dials feature a thin black outer track and ringed with a metallic edge. The sapphire crystal is free of any scratches.The Daytona 16520 comes in at 40mm and carved out of stainless steel. The 100% unpolished case has retained all its character with small surface scratches and tiny dings around 1 of the lugs. The factory brushed finish on the top portion of the lugs remains intact. The lines of the oyster case are super sharp.Everything is original all the way down to the orginal green case back sticker that was never removed after bieng purchased new. The screw-down water-proof push buttons, Oyster Triplock 700 series winding crown and Oyster Ref 78390 bracelet with 503 B end links are all correct and original to this watch.This reference 16520 uses a movement based on the Zenith Caliber 4030. A great movement as manufactured by Zenith, it was the industry’s only self-winding chronograph movement that met Rolex’s high quality standards.
