This original work on canvas appears to bear the signature of famed Mexican artist artist David Alfarno Siqueiros. Siqueiros was the youngest of "los tres grandes" (three greats) of Mexican muralism, along with Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco. He was also arguably the most radical of the three in his technique, composition and political ideology. Informed by revolutionary Marxist ideology, his career was dedicated to fostering change through public art. Over the course of five decades, he integrated avant-garde styles and techniques with traditional iconography and local histories. He, like Rivera, firmly believed that technology was a means to a better world and he sought to combine traditions of painting with modern political activism.

The work in this lot is a surrealist themed depiction of a disembodied hand, head, face and foot possibly in a cast, which are combined to create a bridge between a barrier being grasped by the hand and an empty space abutting the foot. The structure created by the limbs and face are seemingly suspended by a hand-headed suite-clad man, possibly reflecting the means of labor, mobility, and ideology being held up by elites as little more than speech worthy currency.The painting measures approximately 16" x 12". The signature on the work is similar to those found on Siqueiros's early works, but it has not been authenticated.

Condition / Notes: Though the signature on this work appears to match that of Siqueiros's early artwork, it has not been confirmed that this painting is his creation. The piece shows nicely and has been carefully well preserved. Only some minor dings and chipping are visible on the frame. The back of the canvas has some mild yellowing to be expected with art of this age.
