Description
**Originally Listed At $650**
Pre-Columbian, south coast of Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 300 to 500 CE. Made from hammered 12K gold sheet, this is a beautiful miniature flute with four holes along its length. The people who lived in the ancient Andes had a strong tradition of music and dance; the Spanish, encountering the Inca, described flutes, panpipes, trumpets, drums, and rattles. Ceramic instruments from the Nazca time period often have dramatic symbolic motifs, many of them religious in nature, indicating a link between music and the gods. Others, like this one, have simple, clean designs. An instrument made from such precious metal was probably owned and played by one of the elite members of the society. Size: 0.35" W x 2.75" H (0.9 cm x 7 cm); 3.8" H (9.7 cm) on included custom stand. 4.1 grams.
Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex Hirsch collection, Germany
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
