The reference 1675 was one of the most prolific models produced by Rolex that came into existence in the '60s and remained in production for 20 consecutive years!
First introduced with a glossy gilt dial, which was later changed to a matte dial like the one on this beautiful watch happened in the late 1960s. The dial on this example, which is known as a Mark 0, is the very 1st iteration of the matte dials. It’s distinctive features include beautifully puffy lume plots and a striking resemblance to it’s older brother, the Type C gilt dial. Both these dials variants have a variety of font widths as the printing pads had become worn and needed to be replaced.
The indexes and hands including the large GMT hand have aged gracefully and are a slightly different shade something you often see with this reference.
This 1.8 Mil serial watch was the last to have the very desirable “thin case†since it was phased out in 1968. Overall in great shape the case has seen some polish over the years but nothing excessive and the square crown guards are very well defined. The original twinlock crown is also present.
The black bezel insert on this timepiece is mint and emphasizes how well thought-through this watch was – as tracking a second time zone finally became simple.
While impossible to date when this insert was made, the 1st black iterations seem to have come out around 1976. It’s also speculated that they were strictly a service item which would be consistent with this watch as it also has a later silver brushed date wheel that would have been fitted during a service.
The “plexi†crystal is brand new and an original Rolex part, note that the watch comes with the original crystal.
It’s important to point out that while the watch has been freshly cleaned and serviced with only authentic Rolex parts it initially had a terrible reproduction dial that was removed. It was fitted with an original Rolex dial that is slightly older than the case; the correct dial iteration for the case serial would be a Mark 1.
Overall, this is a fantastic example of a 1675 with beautiful patina to boot!
